Nursing Staff

Our nursing staff are behind the scenes performing lab tests, monitoring anesthesia, dispensing prescriptions, and nursing your cat when they stay with us.  These individuals have received special training to be able to answer any questions you may have and provide the best possible care for your cats. They also provide compassion and care for your family member with the doctors in the exam room as well as when they board with us.  These are the team members that hold, hug, cuddle, feed, medicate, and love your pets while they are with us.

Jennifer Nanni

Jennifer has been working at The Cat Doctor for over ten years. She       attended Manor College in Jenkintown, PA, graduating from the Veterinary Technology program in 1997. Even after all these years, Jennifer loves her job as much as she did on her first day. Her favorite aspects of her job are caring for geriatric patients, radiology, and working in the diagnostics lab. She lives with a beautiful kitty named Charlotte, and her parents now provide a wonderful home to Teddy, our handsome former housecat.

Miriam Fernandez

Originally from New York, Miriam moved to Philadelphia in June of 2006. Ever since she was a little girl, she loved animals and knew she wanted a career working with them.

She attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Miriam has worked as a veterinary technician since 2004. She joined The Cat Doctor crew in January of 2006, and has loved every second of her time here! Miriam shares her apartment with four extremely spoiled kitties: Sebastian, Vincent, Braxton, and Duncan, and one very grumpy (but very cute!) bunny named Milton. At home with her parents in New York is our former housecat Sparky, whom she visits as often as she can.

Monique Manns

Monique Manns is a recent graduate of Harcum College’s Animal Center Management program. She has had a passion for animal care since she was a young child, when she and her sister would find and nurse back to health every injured dog, cat, bird, and even squirrel they encountered. When Monique is not working as a technician or Administrator here at The Cat Doctor, she’s spending time with her human family and her crazy cats, Corin and Noodle.

Shayna Kohan

Born and raised in Philly, Shayna has always been interested in working with animals. She has worked for over 10 years in multiple areas of the animal care field.  Shayna graduated from Manor College with a degree in Veterinary Technology in 2006 and has been working at The Cat Doctor as the evening shift supervisor since November 2010.  Shayna’s favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are anesthesia and emergency medicine, and she loves to train and mentor others in the veterinary field.  Shayna shares her apartment with three cats, Dita, Tchotchke, and Colonel Popcorn (whom she adopted through City Kitties).  When Shayna is not at work, she enjoys playing video games, reading comic books, and eating at fancy restaurants with her friends.

Jackie Benasutti

Jackie has always been fascinated by all animals and raised quite a few while growing up outside of Philadelphia. She attended the University of Arts and received her BFA in 2010. Still having a passion for veterinary medicine, she joined The Cat Doctor nursing team shortly after graduation. Jackie is constantly inspired by care and support of cats and dogs and loves a challenge. At home she has three cats, and is fostering a feline friend for City Kitties. Outside of work, she takes on side projects in the areas of film, videography, painting, and is even beginning an apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist. She loves playing video games and is often juggling a number of crafty projects at once. Jackie is a very friendly person who loves to help and solve problems.

Kris Klufas

Kris was born and raised in Fairmount and is currently living in Chestnut Hill with her husband, Michael, and their cat, Bagheera. She spent her early career in clothing retail for close to 20 years, but decided to take a chance and change careers after being laid off. Kris graduated from Walter Biddle Saul High of Agriculture Sciences class of 1988, and though she was a Horticulture Major she loved her animal science classes. Kris has been a client here since her first cats in 1984, which is why she was so happy to have the chance to intern here after finishing an online course to be a Veterinary Assistant, and thrilled to have been hired after her internship. She’s excited to be part of the team because she believes in the service and quality that the doctors and staff give to all their patients.

Bethany Fruman

Bethany worked part-time at The Cat Doctor until starting veterinary school.  She missed the cats so much that she can still occasionally be found in the back filling in for our other nurses. Bethany will graduate from Penn Vet in 2013 and hopes to work in shelter medicine. Bethany and her boyfriend, Andy, live with 5 felines (Hillard, Huxley, Little Maizy Muffin Toes, Melo, and Rooney) and also foster for City Kitties and ACCT.
